Heat Pump Week 2024
You know you have truly arrived in the public consciousness when you have a week named after you. We can now add Heat Pump Week to the great list of awareness days/weeks/months which focus people’s minds on a particular event or subject matter.
The inaugural Heat Pump Week, which ran 23rd-29th September, was set up to unite the Heat Pump community and engage the government in highlighting the importance of Heat Pumps in the energy transition.
Highlighting the Growth of Renewable Heating in the UK
Based on the amount of column inches in the newspapers, on airwaves and, of course, social media, it’s fair to say that the mission was accomplished and that Heat Pumps are no longer just a lot of hot air – they are now recognised as versatile, eco-friendly technologies capable of both heating and cooling!
Record-Breaking Heat Pump Installations in the UK
The week coincided with the new figures which reveal that the UK has passed the milestone of 250,000 certified installations with 2024 set to be on track to be a record-breaking year.
The technology also received backing at the Labour Party conference last week when Energy Secretary Ed Miliband announced a “home upgrade revolution” aimed at making Britain’s housing stock cleaner and cheaper to heat.
The Government is about to consult on proposals for private and social rented homes to achieve Energy Performance Certificate C or equivalent by 2030. It has also announced a new Warm Homes: Local Grant to help low-income homeowners and private tenants with energy performance upgrades and cleaner heating.
Supporting the Shift to Renewable Heating with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Along with other existing grant schemes, including the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme, Heat Pumps are going to be front and centre of this clean, green revolution.
When a property giant like Rightmove reveals that search terms such as solar panels and Heat Pumps have risen dramatically recently, it further demonstrates that attitudes are changing among consumers.
Achieving 600,000 Heat Pump Installations by 2028
And with National Heat Pump Week now going to be a yearly event, and only going to get bigger and better with the support of big industry hitters such as Scottish Power and Good Energy UK, there’s no reason not to believe that the target of 600,000 Heat Pump installations will be reached, if not surpassed, by the target year of 2028.
Which is absolutely fine with us of course!
